Can India become a developed nation?

We have at the helm of our Country a renowned personality, a decent writer, a intriguing scientist in the form of Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, who says India is going to be a developed country by 2020, the question is
Can we realy become a developed nation?
What are the challenges facing us now ?

The first and foremost challenge facing us right now is that we are not paying proper attention to the backbone of our country, i.e. agriculture. One who is vulnerable in his strength can succumb to injuries more easily than a weaker person who is strong in his strength, this is the case that's happening in our country presently. We need another Green revolution to restore our glory from small nations like Cuba which has overtaken India as world's largest sugercane and coffee producer and Bangladesh which produces more jute than us, we the world's biggest democracy are sitting back and watching others outwitting us.

The second challenge is the lack of foresight among the youth, we can't blame them for this instead we have to blame the improper moral and awareness education imparted in schools. Youth in India don't pursue a career in which they are strong at instead they just go by the trend, eventhough it may not suit their style and skill. Some good examples being the B.Com crush of the eighties and the B.E. crush now in this decade.

The third one being those loyal and truthful ones who after years of study in India want a change and go to foreign countries to earn money, commenting about the poor conditions back home, in which they learned their basics.

The last but the most important of all is the educated and learned persons not taking to politics reasoning its filthy, I just want to ask a question to all who say politics is a drain, it's filthy, if everybody goes on saying like that, then who is going to clean the drain? You educated persons, who know that a drain that too polluted is harmful, don't even bother about cleaning it, then you must be ready to live with that stinking smell of it. These days even people who take to civil services is also decreasing at an alarming rate, what to do?

Don't call me pessimistic or anti NRI, am just staying the truth, at times truth hurts, but it is still truth. It's not my intention that India shouldn't become a developed country, but am pained to see that its going to be a tough road ahead, unless otherwise a dramatic change comes around.

This being my first post, I have become a bit diplomatic and philosophical, from next time and all this will not be the case, also the blog will not be long. It will be short, crisp and sweet.
Bye, bye for today.

hi ,

yeah i too agree with what ever is written .. but one point i would like to bring to notice .. in this world money counts whether we like it to hear or not this is the bare truth .. at some point may be the desire of money will be replaced by work satisfaction but that takes time .. all we can do is bring that stage as fast as we ca n hope all of us work for much more than just money & bring glory to our nation ..
also the point abt the politics is cent percent correct ..

I think certain positives have started happening.Agri is looking up but needs to be more agressive.Info tech is doing very well.Manufacturing in parts (eg:sugar, steel, cement)etc is doing pretty good. The biggest mistake is not tapping oil reserves to the maximum potential. This will pose huge threat since oil is becoming extremely costly .As regds going abroad i share your views eventhough my own brother is settled in the U.S

Comments on the comments and the trend:
Rather than agreeing or disagreeing with the outline points, look to what we can DO. For this we have to identify the points that need IMPROVEMENT and the points that CAN BE improved.
Solutions from the ground up:
1) Education - make it widespread. Each of us can do our mite in educating the people of this country.
Change the education content, from one of occupational subjects, to one that provides moral, artistic and scientific basis.
Benefit: 1)The educated vote,
2) Educated behaviour,
3) The educated farmer.
2) Health - take advances in health to every nook and corner of the country.
Benefit: Healthier population. Money spent on crisis reduces.
3) With the above two foundations built, change in all streams, be it political, occupational, philanthropy or patriotism, is better ensured.

hi,
i totally go with wat u said.according to me ur last point stands as the most serious of all.educated men ruling the nation!!!! a big question mark??? even during the days of king's rule this was not the case. i wonder how this trend came into being....not a healthy sign... but sure i know this could be changed if all of us join hands and take a huge leap... everymind should think it... hopin this day is very near in future...

Hey guys i think you are dreaming about the way every disillusioned teenager thinks. Lemme ask how many of you are going to write civil exams now this year ? Now dont start off saying that we will do it after a few years. That idea is a real crap.

Human beings evolved in this world by themselves trying to make it to the top. I know there are a few who would feel that i am being too selfish. Even i spend a part of my earnings for the welfare of the people but ultimately i dont want to be nincompoop by waiting for the others to catch up with me. How many of you have not envied your wealthy friends atleast once inyour life ? Nobody is a perfectionist and nobody will cease to try to be one. I feel that there is no question of India developing or not that we can decide, it is nature that will drive us to the act.

100 millioon years nobody i am sorry nothing believed that dinosaurs will become extinct but today it is the absolute truth that an inferior creature has risen up on the same soil and tries to confuse others. So keep in ttouch and dont ever try to overhelm mother nature. Bye

hey,
this is really good tht ppl xpecially the youngsters hav started givin a serious thought to develop india.i mean the fact tht a young graduate has written abt this in his blog.i totally agree with the entire article xpecially the last reason. when we need an educate to lead a district as in an IAS officer, then we surely need one for the country.it is good to see that ppl are thinkin on the same wavelength as me and it's upto us to join hands.

india bein a developed nation by 2020? not a chance... it'll never happen.

there are a whole bunch of reasons that i won't go into now, but the most glaring one is that people who actually ought to work in the government are totally discouraged by the ridiculous quotas available to people of much less talent and/or dedication. if you have people who don't really want to work in the government - thy only work because its how they earn their keep, the administrative functions of the government are useless. further with reservations in educational institutions and in general in all walks of life, the forward caste people feel that they'd rather leave the country than work in a country that has no need for them.

as for the challanges you've listed out, they're true to an extent, but the third about people leaving is totally unjustified - if they want to go earn abroad, its none of YOUR busines... its quite obvious that they've earned the right to do so by working or studying hard. to blame them for the countries woes is pathetic.

and as for educated people takin to politics - look at the lok paritarn today... it's assured of not winning even a percent of the votes polled in the constituencies where they stand. the people don't vote for educated people - it doesn't mean anytrhing to them. they would rather vote for 'superstar' rajinikanth or that ridiculous 'captain' vijaykanth... merit does not mean anything. agreed, educated people ought to stand EVEN THOUGH they might lose, but for most people, this is a waste of time and something that they'd rather not take the effort of doing.

before i end, i'd like to ask you somethin - after all you've said, are YOU planning on taking up politics? if you want a difference to be made, are you going to try to do it yourself? or will you just limit yourself to making comments on the issue?

Hi,

The government of China is single party communist, so everyone should adapt to their government orders and no one can able to oppose, but in India so many parties, religious conflicts, caste system plays major role. That should be first removed from the mind of the people.

Every country has terror attacks, so our government do not spend much more amount in defence and spend it for human development, agriculture and other infrastructures.

In order to remove corruption, we (people) have to change first, we have to stop giving money for others for our own benefits in some small small things. The rich people thought that they are able to buy anything with money so they have to minimise the use of country's resources such as food, oil, gas, etc so that it should be utilised by other class of people also. Like Bill Gates Foundation, our industrialists, millionaires should come forward to start a foundation which would improve our growth in all paths. The top most richest Indians names was not present in the top 10 list of tax payers in India. Then how our finance will improve???

The government should get the food crops from farmers for their fixed rate only, not with government fixed rates. The banks should reduce their interest rates so that unemployed youths and farmers could get the loans easily.

In order to correct the current politics system, the youngsters should show their interest in Political Science, Economics rather than Engineering or Medicine. And in parallel, our Election Commission put strong rules for election candidates atleast a minimum criteria of 12th standard certificate.

If this are all happened, India should developed but not in terms of any time frame.
